The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says no political party has forwarded the list of their candidates for the 2019 elections. Political parties had conducted primaries for elective positions, most before the deadline of October 7 elapsed.
But in a statement signed by Mohammed Haruna, a member of the information and voter education committee, on Thursday, INEC said none of the 89 registered political parties has forwarded a list of successful candidates in the primaries.
It said the deadlines for doing so remains the same — October 18 for presidential and national assembly candidates, and November 2 for governorship and state house of assemblies candidates.
Recently, the commission blocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) from submitting a governorship candidate in Zamfara after the party failed to conduct its primary election within the stipulated time.
