Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in twenty years despite a three-one win over Everton on the final day of the Premier League.
The Gunners began the day a point behind fourth-place Liverpool and were on course to displace the Reds when they took an eighth-minute lead. But Liverpool, needing a win to ensure fourth, broke Middlesbrough resistance just before the break, and won three-one.
Manchester City claimed third with a very easy five-nil win at Watford. Meanwhile,
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will miss next weekend’s FA Cup final against Chelsea after being sent off in the first half of today’s Premier League game against Everton.
Koscielny was shown a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Enner Valencia in the fourteenth minute, with Arsenal already leading one-nil at the Emirates.
That means the centre-back will be suspended for the FA Cup final at Wembley, a massive blow for the Gunners’ hopes of ending the season with a trophy, while he will also miss the opening two league matches of next season.
