Mr. Adegbite, an educationist and Lecturer at the Department of Performing Arts, University of Ilorin did not mince words when reacting to the concerns raised by the NULGE (Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees) Chairman regarding encroachment on local government powers by state governors across Nigeria.
It would be recalled that The National President of NULGE, Comrade Akeem Ambali, in a press statement expressed concern as governors in various states across Nigeria encroached upon the powers of local government areas, describing the current state of affairs for the government closest to the people as disheartening while emphasizing the need for local government autonomy as a solution to address the challenges faced by local government areas.
In a fiery response while speaking to RoyalTimes, Adegbite labeled most governors in Nigeria as “law breakers,” accusing them of disregarding established rules and regulations. Expressing disappointment, he highlighted the delayed response from NULGE, pointing out their initial support for governors post-election in the hopes of better treatment.
He shed light on politicians’ tactics to sway public opinion pre-elections, calling for NULGE to take proactive measures by legally challenging governors who neglect the welfare of local government employees. Adegbite emphasized that legal action could prompt necessary changes in governance structures.
