- Says 2023 Power Shift Agitation is Too Early
The Speaker Kwara State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Yakubu Danladi-Salihu has stated that oneness of purpose and corporate understanding has been very vital in ensuring smooth relationship with the state executive arm of government.
He ruled out assertions that the ninth assembly is a puppet of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration, noting that ensuring a cordial relationship with the executive is in the best interest of the people of Kwara, one that has resulted in peaceful governance as well as laudable execution of projects in all state constituencies.
Speaker Danladi-Salihu stated this while responding to question during Media Parley organized by the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) on Monday in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.
He noted that the lawmakers have been thorough in carrying out their duties and has never witnessed any interference from the state executive.
The Speaker flanked by some of his colleagues; Hon Tayo Awodiji (Irepodun), Hon Amuda Yusuf (Ilorin East) and Hon Gani Gabriel said the cordial relationship between the legislative and executive are in the best interest of Kwara State.
”We are partners in progress! We don’t need to create unnecessary crisis due to detractors criticism. The 9th Assembly will continue to work with the executive to move the state forward. The synergy is for public good and we shall maintain that approach”. He added.
Danladi insisted that major decisions come from the people, as the house ensures it allows for public hearing in most of its decision-making process.
Speaking on performance of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Danladi described the governor as God sent and a focused leader that means well for Kwara state.
He said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has implemented projects in every local government within 24 months, saying ‘you can point to projects implemented by Abdulrazaq-led administration. The governor has touched all the sector positive’.
The Speaker also hailed Abdulrazaq for the social investment programme for the vulnerable people in the society and help market men/women including youth to boost their businesses, adding that the Innovation Hub and Visual Arts Gallery will create opportunities for the young entrepreneurs and upcoming generation to be self reliant.
Danladi said the 9th Assembly has being participating actively in budget preparation process by attending town hall meetings, thereby giving them opportunity to have inputs in what goes to their respective constituency.
Responding to question on Power Shift to Kwara North Senatorial District, the Speaker urged politicians to allow the current political office holders to focus on fulfilling their campaign promises and deliver good governance for the people as well as state development.
According to him, I think it’s too early to start discussing 2023 general elections. Let’s focus on fulfilling our campaign promises and deliver dividends of democracy to people across 16 local government areas. Nobody can guaranteed what will happen tomorrow, so why are we disturbing ourselves about power shift or 2023 elections. Let’s use this four years for the betterment of our people and the state at large.
The trained engineer turned politician lauded his colleagues for facilitating projects to their constituencies and executing projects to better the lots of the citizenry.
In his closing remarks, the Chairman Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), Salihu Shola Taofeek commended the speaker for attending the interactive session with journalists to commemorate 9th Assembly second year anniversary.
Salihu Shola Taofeek said the association was established to sanitize online media space, build members’ capacity and prevent spread of fake news.
