Following the indiscriminate collection of Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) levy above the agreed and approved fee by principals in Kwara state, the State Government has promised to deal decisively with such public schools principals extorting students and parents under the guise of parent teacher association levy PTA.
Speaking at a press conference held at the ministry of education, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Bilqis Oniyangi who frowned at the dubious character by the principals said one thousand four hundred and fifty naira and one thousand and five hundred naira had been approved for returning junior and senior school students respectively
Five thousand, one hundred and thirty naira and five thousand, three hundred and eighty naira had also been approved for new junior and senior secondary school students in the state.
The commissioner who explained that the findings of the ministry confirmed that many principals had willfully violated the agreement by charging between seven thousand naira and forty thousand naira assured that public that principals caught engaging in sharp practices during her unscheduled visit to schools would be sanctioned accordingly.
The Commissioner advised parents to seek refund on the overpayment made to principals and urged them to report uncooperative principals to the ministry by contacting the following number 09025573100 and 07067330432. She also warned principals to desist from collecting mop, laundry basket, bucket and other materials from students in any school in the state.
