The Vietnamese Communist Party has agreed to the resignation of President Vo Van Thuong in a sign of political turmoil that could affect the confidence of foreign investors in the country.
The government revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying that Thuong had violated party rules, adding that those shortcomings had negatively affected public opinion.
While the government statement did not elaborate on Thuong’s shortcomings, all major leadership changes in the one-party state have recently been linked to the wide-ranging anti-bribery campaign aimed at stamping out widespread corruption.
