In a bid to improve the unemployment rate among Nigerian youths, a university lecturer and Professor of Counsellor Education with the University of Ilorin, Mary Grace Fajonyomi has advised the Federal Government to consider reducing the retirement age of civil servants, opposing the proposed plan from the labour union to increase it.
Mrs. Fajonyomi stated this while delivering the 238th Inaugural Lecture tagged: “Functional Guidance And Counselling Practice For A Dysfunctional Society”, held at the University’s Auditorium.
She added that no retired professors or senior civil servants should be given contract appointment and that “there should not be extension of retirement date while more attention should be beamed into attempts by some people to falsify their ages in order to stay more on the job.”
Fajonyomi further noted that the nature of digital technology revolution in the country and globally with attending effect has brought about the deployment of e-counselling stressing that appropriate technologies and media should be creatively engaged and deployed while relating with the counsellees or clients.
