President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone declared on Saturday that his government’s response to the attempted coup last week would be guided by “respect for the law” in a national address.
In the wake of the assault on November 26, where armed attackers targeted a military armoury, barracks, prisons, and police stations, resulting in 21 casualties, President Bio assured the nation that the government would handle the situation as a matter of public order, devoid of political, tribal, or religious considerations.
President Bio emphasized that irrespective of their status, all guilty parties would be held accountable within the legal framework.
The Sierra Leonean government released the names and photos of 32 men and two women wanted as “fugitives,” including both serving and retired soldiers and police officers.
