The Senate on Wednesday postponed the session on the briefing by service chiefs regarding insecurity until February 13, 2024.
According to the Senate, the adjournment will allow for the participation of all those involved in national security management.
The lawmakers were scheduled to hear from the security chiefs in the Senate chamber about the nation’s increasing level of insecurity today; but, due to the decision to expand the briefing, the Senate had to reschedule the meeting.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio while approving the adjournment, noted that the Senate would like a holistic deliberation on insecurity.
Meanwhile, a bill seeking to amend the Electoral Act on Wednesday scaled through a second reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill, sponsored by Francis Waive, proposes that the general elections be conducted on the same day to save money and time for the country as well as prevent the bandwagon effect.
The amendment also seeks to make electronic transmission of results compulsory and punish persons who file frivolous petitions with heavy fines to reduce the number of cases that would end up in court.
