Rivers Government Scuffle: New Speaker Emerges, Chief Judge Suspended as Impeachment Process Against Gov Fubara Begins

written by Royal Times of Nigeria October 30, 2023

The Former Majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie has emerged the new Speaker of the state Assembly and the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Amadi has been suspended.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has also suspended four of its members after they were accused of masterminding the explosion that rocked the Assembly complex on Sunday night.

This followed the impeachment process of Governor Siminalayi Fubara over alleged misuse of power and misconduct.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has said that any attempt that is not justified will be resisted:

“This a very troubling news. We have gone to the assembly to see for ourselves what has happened. On my way there I was shot at directly by the OC operation but with my journey today, whatever it is that were to happen, let it happen. If Siminalayi Fubara is impeached, I am not the first rather will I be the last, but what is important is any attempt that is not justified will be resisted. Let them come out and tell the people of Rivers state the offence that Fubara commited that is warranting impeachment.”
