President Bola Tinubu, is expected to grace the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference as the Special Guest of Honour.
The conference, scheduled from December 10 to 16, will take place at the Command Guest House in Maiduguri, Borno State, as announced by Army spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Oyenma Nwachukwu.
Brig.-Gen. Nwachukwu highlighted the conference’s role in providing the Nigerian Army with an opportunity to assess, evaluate, and comprehensively review ongoing operational engagements across all theatres of operations within the country’s six geo-political zones throughout the year.
“The Conference would also create an opportunity for the COAS to have face-to-face interaction with the General Officers Commanding, Field Commanders and other senior officers to provide requisite guidance on enhancing Nigerian Army operations and activities. The conference will be declared open on Monday 11 December 2023.”
Nwachukwu said that a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), would present a paper titled “Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria”.
In another event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja called for the removal of Envelop system of funding to better equip the military.
He said: “ There shall be commissioning of Nigerian Army Civil Military Cooperation projects aimed at bringing succour to some communities in Borno State.”
