Governors from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a stark warning, stating that Nigeria is dangerously close to following the path of Venezuela due to economic and security challenges.
During a meeting held in Abuja, Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, called upon President Bola Tinubu to urgently implement measures to alleviate the crisis gripping the nation.
Speaking to reporters at the Oyo Governors’ lodge in Asokoro, Governor Bala expressed grave concerns over the current state of affairs in Nigeria. He emphasized that the economic and security challenges have plunged Nigerians into severe hardship, drawing a comparison to the situation in Venezuela.
The PDP Governors urged the Federal Government to collaborate with sub-national governments to find lasting solutions to the crises. They reiterated their support for the establishment of state police forces, emphasizing the need for appropriate safeguards to prevent abuse.
Furthermore, the Governors voiced their concern over the depreciating value of the Naira and called upon monetary and fiscal authorities to devise effective solutions to stabilize the currency.
