The Kwara State Fire Service on Sunday averted a potentially catastrophic fire incident, saving a residential building from extensive damage.
The incident unfolded on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at approximately 17:08 hours (05:08 PM) at Bamidele Dosunmu Street, Danialu area, Ilorin, in the Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The brigade swiftly responded to a distress call received via telephone from an anonymous person residing
near the scene of the fire.
According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson of the fire service, the Firefighters, acting promptly, managed to extinguish the blaze promptly despite the intensity of the fire, noting that only one bedroom out of the five in the building was affected by the flames.
He stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the cause of the fire was attributed to a power surge.
Adekunle further estimated that the fire service saved property valued at #29.3 million Naira, while property valued at #2.3 million Naira was damaged in the incident.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, emphasized the importance of public safety during this period and urged citizens to promptly alert the fire brigade in the event of any fire emergency in their areas.
He stressed that such quick responses are crucial in preserving lives and properties across the state.
