Over one million people in Somalia are reported to be affected by the heavy seasonal downpours as residents are left without homes and food shortages
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the flooding has been worsened by the EL Nino effect which is causing changes in weather patterns around the world.
However, Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, noted its leadership is focusing on the country’s stabilization, adding that people have been displaced with homes and properties destroyed.
The president also expressed concern about the added risk of outbreaks of diseases such as malaria and cholera.
