The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that the fact it accepted grains from Ukraine does not make Nigeria a weak or failed state.
Speaking at the 2023 Leadership Annual Conference and Award on Tuesday in Abuja, Idris said Egypt gets about sixty percent of its grains from Ukraine and that does not make it a failed state.
He admitted that Nigeria is having challenges at the moment but stressed that countries exist to depend on one another.
He explained that the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not shying away from the current hardship, noting that it did not begin upon assumption of office by the President.
“He has not stopped at that. Just last week, President Tinubu went to Qatar to attract more businesses and investments into Nigeria.
“We are optimistic that soon, what we are passing through will be a thing of the past and Nigeria will be better,’’ Idris said.
He stressed that going by figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria’s fuel importation reduced by fifty percent after fuel subsidy removal, just as the economy improved significantly before adding that the President has attracted more than thirty billion dollars in foreign investments into the country since assuming office.
