In view of a growing number of Nigerians migrating out of the country, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has again cautioned Nigerians against illegal migration, urging them for proper research before travelling to other nations.
Speaking in Dallas, USA on Friday, Dabiri-Erewa said that both legal and illegal migration is hard to stop but urged Nigerians to make proper research before going to live in deplorable conditions.
Dabiri-Erewa also blasted some Nigerians that go abroad and portray the country in bad light in a bid to “seek asylum” in a foreign land.
She also cautioned against those migrating into foreign countries through illegal means such as travelling with tourist visas and refusing to return upon expiration.
“So you can’t stop migration, legal or illegal. But let’s reduce the temptation to go and get into a tougher place,” she said on Friday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“Don’t leave for what you call a greener pasture to what I call a ‘reder’ pasture,” she added.
“Where you are going to, ensure you have a job; somebody who is going to look after you.”
