Champions Manchester City on Saturday defeated Brighton 2-1 at the Etihad despite going down to 10 men. City went in front thanks to Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland. Brighton fought back into the game through Ansu Fati but could not get back into the game.
Earlier in the day, Liverpool defeated 10-man Everton courtesy of a Mo Salah brace while Newcastle put four past Crystal Palace.
Brentford secured a 3-0 victory over Burnley while Wolves beat Bournemnouth away from home 2-1 with Nottingham Forest and Luton Town settling for a 2-2 draw.
