The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, are gearing up to depart Nigeria on Sunday night for South Africa ahead of the crucial second leg of the last round of the 2024 Olympic Games qualifier. This follows their narrow 1-0 victory over South Africa in the first leg.
The lone goal of the match came from the well-taken penalty by Captain Rasheedat Ajibade in the 42nd minute of the game, separating the nine-time African champions Nigeria from the reigning champions South Africa.
The match, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium on Friday night, saw Chinwendu Ihezuo being fouled in the box just minutes earlier, leading to Ajibade’s decisive goal.
With all eyes now on the return leg scheduled for Tuesday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, the Super Falcons maintain a slim one-goal advantage in the fixture, leaving much to play for in the upcoming match.
