The All Progressive Congress APC Senatorial candidate in Kwara Central Mallam Saliu Mustapha has rewarded students in the state who distinguished themselves in their studies.
Speaking at the final of Inter secondary schools competition organized by Saliu Mustapha Foundation in collaboration with the Kwara State Government at Ilorin Grammar School Ilorin, Mustapha said the exercise would complement the efforts of the government and teachers.
Mustapha who stressed a need to create an enabling environment for teaching to strive said education funding should not be left for the government alone even as he called on other well meaning individuals in the state to compliment government efforts. He urged participating students to remain dedicated to their studies.
Oro Grammar School Oro emerged first position with cash prize of 250,000 naira, Ansarul Islam Secondary School, Ilorin second position with a sum of 200,000 naira, Offa Grammar School ,Offa third position with the sum of 150,000 naira cash, a cash prize of 100,000 naira to Government Secondary School Omu-aran ,Omu -Aran and 50,000 naira to Government High school Adeta ,Ilorin that came fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The Foundation also promised free National Examination Council (NECO) , West Africa Examination Council Nigeria (WAEC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration to the participating students.
The Guest Speaker at the event Dr Issa Omolabi from University of Ilorin spoke on the theme: “Changing the course of history: promoting education through humanitarian gesture” . Omolabi who stressed the impact of education said through education many things can be changed for good.
President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Kwara State Chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Umar in his brief remarks said for any country to grow depends on the educational development of such country. He commended the giant stride of Saliu Mustapha Foundation in the education sector of the state .
Chairman ,Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) Kwara State Wing Comrade Oyewo Bashiru Ayinde in a seperate remark at the event said the competition has helped teachers in the state to show case their work as the participating students participated excellently .
