Kwara residents Lament as Motorists hike transport fares over fuel subsidy removal

Commercial drivers have hiked their fares on various routes across Kwara state over increase in fuel pump price amidst as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

Royal FM senior correspondent olarotimi oshin who monitored the situation reports that motorcycles operators now charge two hundred naira per drop while charging three to four hundred naira on long distance.

Our correspondents who found that the fares for both intrastate and interstate commuting increased significantly in most parts of the country.

Finding shows that some tricycles still charge 100 to 150 naira. One of the operators who spoke with our correspondent said if he is getting full load at every moment, he can still sustain the 100 per drop while some tricycles operators charge 150, 200 naira depends on the distance.

It would be recalled that Fuel queues returned to Nigerian cities Monday as many motorists scrambled to get petroleum products hours after President Bola Tinubu announced that his government will put an end to the fuel subsidy regime.

Our correspondent reports that prices of food items which include gari , plantains have increased in the market. Gari now sold at three hundred naira per paint rubber. Price of bag of five still maintain 29,500 naira.
