The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has accused the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led-administration of mismanaging state funds and failing to address outstanding salary arrears.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the PDP condemned what they termed as propaganda surrounding the payment of meager percentages of salary arrears, highlighting that over ten billion naira was left in the state’s treasury in 2019, which they claim could have easily cleared all outstanding arrears.
According to the statement signed by the Party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the previous administration, led by Abdulfatah Ahmed, was on the verge of settling all outstanding arrears owed to workers and pensioners when they were allegedly obstructed by the federal government freezing the state’s account; accusing the current administration of allocating only a fraction of the necessary amount to address the salary crisis despite inheriting significant funds.
“The PDP also challenged Governor Abdulrazaq to fulfill his promise of better welfare for workers by allocating a substantial portion of the funds left in a secret bank account towards clearing the salary arrears, additionally calling on him to prioritize addressing the alleged mismanagement of funds related to the Kwara Hotel renovation scandal.
