Kwara State Fire Service on Monday recovered a drowned body from the Agba Dam after receiving a distress call from Mr. Onikepe Bolaji, reporting the discovery of the lifeless body.
In a statement signed by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire service, on arrival, deployed a boat to initiate a rescue operation.
The statement added that the fire service retrieved the body of a 44-year-old man who had tragically drowned and handed over the recovered body to DSP Achimugu Samuel of the Nigeria Police, who was also present at the scene.
Expressing his condolences, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, conveyed his sadness over the incident. He urged the general public to exercise increased vigilance in their neighborhoods to prevent similar occurrences.
“On Monday November 27, 2023 at about 10:50 hours the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a distress call from Mr. Onikepe Bolaji reporting a body found in Agba Dam. The firemen swiftly embarked on a rescue operation, inflating their boat upon arrival.”
“They successfully recovered the body of a 44-year-old man who had drowned. The rescue team’s expertise was evident and the recovered body was handed over to DSP Achimugu Samuel of the Nigeria Police.”
“Present at the scene were the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Lade and the Permanent Secretary Minister of Water Resources. The Honourable Commissioner commended and expressed appreciation to the rescue team for their exemplary performance in handling the situation.”
“Therefore, The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa expressed his sadness over the incident and voiced out to the general public to be more vigilant in their neighborhoods to prevent similar occurrences.”
