The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) is set to initiate the preparatory activities for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for February 2024.
This announcement comes in the wake of the Kwara State House of Assembly’s recent approval of crucial amendments to the existing laws governing the conduct of local council polls.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Electoral Commission expressed its gratitude for the prompt passage of the amendments, emphasizing the positive impact they are expected to have on the electoral process. The commission eagerly awaits the formal signing of the bill, which is anticipated to happen in the coming days.
“We are excited to receive the news of the passage of the amendments to the law. While the commission looks forward to the signing of the bill any moment from now, we will, in February, announce activities for the conduct of the local government elections.
“We urge all stakeholders to support this process,” the statement said.
The amendments to the electoral laws are expected to enhance the transparency, credibility, and efficiency of the local government election process in Kwara State. KWSIEC, under the leadership of Chairman Okanla Baba, is committed to ensuring a fair and smooth electoral exercise.
