The Acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed that the accounts of all eighteen local government areas and thirty-three local council development areas (LCDAs) be frozen, with reports also stating that the acting governor has instructed the newly formed LCDA against initiating any new account openings.
According to a letter dispatched to the local councils, a complete suspension of spending and expenditure from the local government accounts until further notice was conveyed, emphasizing the immediate stop to cheque signings, alterations in signatories, and any form of withdrawals.
A local government official who spoke in anonymity revealed that the development was worrisome and no reason was given for the new directive.
In a separate announcement, the Acting Governor has designated his Deputy Chief of Staff, Omojuwa Olusegun, to oversee and authorize his official engagements temporarily.
According to a letter signed by Omojuwa addressed to members of the State Executive Council, the Deputy Chief of Staff will handle the preparation and signing of official engagements until the Governor’s return from a medical absence, after which the Chief of Protocol will assume these responsibilities.
The letter reads, “The Acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has directed me to inform all members of the State Executive Council and Top Government Functionaries that the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor would be responsible for the preparation and signing of his official engagements for the time being.
“The Chief of Protocol would take charge of this responsibility as soon as Mr. Governor resumes from his medical vacation.”
