Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), on Wednesday has cried out over the activities of energy thieves, saying it loses over three billion every month to electricity theft by some suspected customers.
Speaking in Ibadan at the Electricity Consumer Complaint Resolution Platform, the Head, IBEDC Customer Support, Mr Ayoola Adio, lamented that the company ran on deficit every month which is sabotaging the company effort to serve its customer better.
The power company said the customers fall into the categories of those who don’t make payment on their bills or are not paying actual amounts on their bills and customers that bypass their meters, among others.
Adio, who represented IBEDC Managing Director, described the development as worrisome, and stressed the need for cooperation between the company and electricity users to curb the menace.
He appealed to customers to pay their bills promptly, report any defaulter and support IBEDC to resolve issues affecting its customers.
“We are handling our customers well, we feel pains whenever customers come for complaints because our duty is to serve them better, the major complaints from our customers are overbilling and the only solution to that is metering and we are trying to bridge the gap.”
