Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says the federal government had directed the security agencies to coordinate with state governors to check the activities of those hoarding food commodities to ensure price control.
The minister disclosed this during the 2024 conference and annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Niger State chapter, in Minna on Tuesday.
Idris, who was represented by Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Ndace, said practical steps were being taken to ameliorate the situation.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government on Tuesday said that some people are working to undermine the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu administration to revamp the Nigerian economy.
The Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima disclosed this at the Public Wealth Management Conference, in Abuja, Pointing accusing fingers at smugglers and politicians as the brains behind the attempt to pull the nation backward.
The Vice President disclosed that forty five trucks loaded with maize were intercepted while making their way to neighboring countries at midnight on Sunday.
“On behalf of the Federal Government, I applaud the effort of Niger State Gov. Umaru Bago, for his timely decision to halt bulk buying of food items for hoarding.”
“This no doubt helped in the recent reduction of the cost of food items in the state,” he said.
