2023 Election: Don cautions politicians against vote buying, corruption

A Professor of Islamic Studies, Badmas Lanre Yusuf, has admonished members of the political class to steer clear of vote buying in the forthcoming general elections.

The Don also cautioned them not to promote corrupt practices before, during and after the polls.

Yusuf, a former Dean, Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, said this in his lecture delivered at Hilal Crescent Mosque, Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin.

While querying the motive for seeking elected public offices, the renowned Islamic scholar observed that many politicians often sacrifice the fear of Almighty God on the altar of inordinate ambition.

He, however, challenged them to make fear of God the beginning of wisdom while aspiring for offices.

Speaking on Nigeria’s 62nd Independent Anniversary, the Unilorin Don likened Nigeria to a bakery where those who called the shots had run aground with baked items and equipment used eaten up completely.

The Islamic scholar added that after six decades of Nigeria’s independence, the country’s education sector remains in shambles and the health sector has nothing to write home about.
