Tax Compliance: Kwara Govt assures FIRS of Council Cooperation

The Kwara State Government has assured officials of the Federal Inland Revenue Service of prompt remittance of all revenue accrued to the agency from Local Government Councils in the State.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saifuddeen disclosed this today while receiving the Revenue Generation Officials in his office.

The Commissioner said he was delighted to receive the revenue team in his office because the meeting would avail them the opportunity to synergize on how all remittances to the Federation Accounts from the 16 Council Areas would be harmonised.

He lamented that the dwindling allocation among the Tiers of Government had been grossly inadequate to cater for the continuous increase in government recurrent expenditure and financing of capital projects.

According to him, as the Ministry saddled with the statutory responsibility of managing the affairs of Local Government Councils in the state, all of them would henceforth be remitting their dues to the coffers of the Federation Account through FIRS.

Arc. Saifuddeen commended the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for abiding and fulfilling all obligations and financial related commitments.

Earlier in her presentation, the Kwara State Monitor of the Agency, Hajia Fatima Omar said Government Business Tax Office Directorate has been saddled with the collection of remittances of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

She expressed hope that prompt payment of the monthly remittance (Tax) would enhance their collections from the Federation Allocation Accounts Committee (FAAC).
