Police Redeploy Embattled DPO In Sagamu

written by Taiwo Adediran March 2, 2016

The embattled Divisional Police Officer in Sagamu, Ogun State, Mr John Mark, has been redeployed to the Command Headquarters, Eleweran in the State’s capital, Abeokuta.

The redeployment followed the allegations (of corruption and extortion) against the DPO.

The redeployment followed the allegations (of corruption and extortion) against the DPO.

Mr Mark’s redeployment came a day after some residents of the area held a protest, demanding that he should be removed from the division.

They accused him of extortion and illegal arrest of innocent residents of the area.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Ogun State Police Command, Mr Abdulmajid Ali, ordered his immediate redeployment in response to the allegations levelled against him which the Command said it was not insensitive to.

He said that the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) would allow the Nigeria Police Force investigate the allegations against him and other counter allegations against certain individuals.

The Commissioner of Police has constituted a 6-man committee, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance & Administration and second in Command Mr Celestine Okoye, to investigate the allegations against the DPO and the concerned Honourable member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Yinka Mafe, and forward its report within one week.

The Committee is expected to carefully consider the allegations and counter allegations in the said matter so as to set the record straight.

The Commissioner of Police also assured the public that the Command would not tolerate any act of corruption and inappropriate behaviour that could damage the image and reputation of the Force.

He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism, vandalism, hooliganism, kidnapping and other social vices that were inimical to adequate security of lives and property in Ogun State.
