The National Universities Commission, NUC, yesterday, awarded a certificate of recognition for the establishment of the Borno State University in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The approval was stated in a letter presented to the Governor of the state, Kasim Shettima by the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Rasheed Abubakar, at the headquarters of NUC in Abuja on Monday.
The Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed lauded the giant strides of the state government in the area of education, noting that after the submission of evaluation report by the technical team, NUC was satisfied with the quality of physical infrastructure and manpower required for the take-off of the university.
The NUC secretary said that the university was expected to start admitting new students with the hope of graduating them in the next four years.
With this development Borno State University becomes the 44th state government-owned and the 144th in the university system in the country.
