Former Super Eagles defender, Juwon Oshaniwa, is training with NPFL side, Akwa United with a view of securing a permanent deal with the Promise Keepers. The twenty-eight-year-old has been without a club after he was released by Scottish club, Heart of Midlothian in June 2017, a year before his contract was due to expire.
Akwa United are in the market for a new left-back after Gabriel Wassa left the club for former NPFL champions, Plateau United this week. The Uyo club named Brazilian Rafael Everton as their new head coach on Monday.
Oshaniwa, who was capped 17 times by Nigeria, has featured for NPFL clubs; Kwara United, Lobi Stars and defunct Sharks Football Football Club of Port Harcourt. He was part of the Super Eagles team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and played all four matches four Nigeria at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
