The Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Gawuna as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.
The three-man panel led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return which was presented to the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Yusuf by the Independent National Electoral Commission and directed one to be issued to Gawuna.
The court deducted one hundred and sixty-five thousand, six hundred and sixty-three votes from Yusuf, stating that the ballot papers were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.
It would be recalled that INEC had declared that the NNPP polled one million, nineteen thousand, six hundred and two votes to defeat the APC who scored eight hundred and ninety thousand, seven hundred and five with a margin of one hundred and twenty-eight thousand, eight hundred and ninety-seven votes.
