In response to the recent devastating explosion in the Bodija area of Ibadan, President Bola Tinubu has directed the establishment of a presidential committee to investigate the potential breach of explosive control laws in the country.
The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday night, claimed the lives of two individuals, left approximately 80 others injured, and caused extensive damage to buildings, vehicles, and other properties.
Dailypost reported the decision to form the committee was announced by the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, following the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Addressing State House correspondents, Badaru stated that the council had initiated an immediate investigation to determine the root cause of the tragic incident.
The Minister highlighted the significance of the existing strict laws governing the movement, storage, and ownership of explosives, affirming that any breakdown in compliance would be thoroughly investigated and addressed.
“That was why the committee was set to look at the laws, to see where the chain is broken, to see how it can be fixed, and to further [see] if this is happening rampantly around the country.”
