Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made bold claims asserting his capability to swiftly end insecurity in the South-east and South-south regions of Nigeria if he is released from detention.
It was gathered that Kanu, who has been held in custody since his controversial rearrest in June 2021, made these assertions during his appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
The IPOB leader’s comments, captured in a trending video clip on social media, have ignited discussions about his influence and the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Kanu attributed the persistence of insecurity in the South-east and South-south to his incarceration, suggesting that his release would swiftly restore peace to the entire eastern region within a mere two minutes.
In his words, “Anybody involved in any form of violence or insecurity in the South-east in the name of IPOB is a loner and they know it. Let me come to this place. Two minutes only! Only two minutes, I guarantee you and there will be peace in the east, not just in the South-east, everywhere in the east, if not the entire South.”
“They (the government officials) know that if Nnamdi Kanu is out, in two minutes, this nonsense will stop,” he said of insecurity, adding that nobody can challenge his order in the regions.
He denounced any form of violence or insecurity perpetrated in the name of IPOB, labelling such individuals as outliers acting against the group’s principles.
