The Nigerian government has addressed concerns surrounding the participation of one thousand, four hundred and eleven delegates at the ongoing COP28 in Dubai, revealing that only four hundred and twenty-two of them were funded by the government.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made this disclosure in a statement on Monday evening, seeking to provide clarity on the composition of the Nigerian delegation at the climate change conference.
RoyalTimes reported that Nigeria was ranked joint third in terms of delegation size, trailing only the UAE and Brazil among all the countries present at COP28.
It gathered that of the one thousand, four hundred and eleven Nigerian delegates, eight hundred and twenty-one were assigned “Overflow” badges, while five hundred and ninety were approved as “Party” badge carriers.
Mohammed Idris clarified that not all the Party delegates were financially supported by the government. He stated that out of the four hundred and twenty-two government-funded delegates, they represented seven broad institutions, with the Presidency accounting for sixty-seven delegates.
