The Nigerian Military has rescued 137 abducted students and teachers from the Kuriga area in Kaduna State, Nigeria, who were held captive by suspected terrorists.
The students and teachers, totaling 137 individuals, were abducted on March 7, 2024, from LEA School Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Their captors, demanding a ransom of N1 billion for their release, had set a deadline of March 27, 2024, for the payment.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu – conveyed thanks to God for the safe return of the students and commended Governor Sani Uba for his role in the operation.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the rescue on Sunday, stating that troops, in collaboration with local authorities and government agencies, executed a coordinated operation leading to the liberation of the hostages.
As reported by the Nations, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed that the rescued individuals, comprising 76 females and 61 males, would be transferred to Kaduna for further action.
In a statement released by the Kaduna State Government, Governor Senator Uba Sani announced the release of the 287 abducted schoolchildren from Kuriga.
