The Nigeria Police Force, Kwara Command, has reiterated its commitment to ensure residents have the right to protest peacefully but warned any individual found instigating violence or engaging in unlawful behavior will face the full wrath of the law.
The Police made the commitment in a statement by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, ANIPR, after a meeting between labour union leaders and the commissioner of police, CP Victor Olaiya psc+, on Monday, February 26, 2024, ahead of the planned protest organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in collaboration with other unions scheduled for 27th and 28th February 2024.
CP Victor Olaiya emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, stating that while citizens have the right to peaceful protest, any form of violence or disruption of public peace will not be tolerated in the state known for its harmony.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police had strategic meetings with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to implement proactive measures to prevent any potential breach of law and order.
