Workers in Nigeria’s power sector have issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, urging it to halt what they deem a deceptive move regarding the recent 300 percent hike in electricity tariffs.
In a statement released under the auspices of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), the workers condemned the tariff hike as yet another anti-people policy. They called upon the government to provide transparent explanations for the hike and to prioritize the interests of the Nigerian populace.
As reported by Dailytrust, the Acting General Secretary of the Union, Dominic Igwebike, along with other officials, asserted that the tariff increase would exacerbate the country’s socioeconomic challenges and advocated for its immediate reversal.
They lamented the lack of significant improvements in the power sector since its privatization, citing a vast gap between installed capacity and actual generation.
