The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed significant progress in its ongoing investigations into alleged financial misappropriation within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
As reported by Punch, the commission revealed that a total of N32.7 billion and $445,000 have been recovered thus far from the ministry, implicating several past and present officials, including the suspended Humanitarian Minister, Betta Edu, her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, and the Coordinator of the National Social Insurance Programmes Agency, Halima Shehu.
According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, released on Sunday, the recoveries were made following extensive investigations that unearthed fraudulent practices involving Covid-19 funds, World Bank loans, and Abacha recovered loot allocated to poverty alleviation programs.
The commission emphasized that the probe extends beyond individuals to expose systemic corruption within the ministry and affiliated banks.
