Ahead of the scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), internal power struggles have intensified between the factions led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
However, a new player has emerged in the form of PDP governors, who are reportedly gearing up to assert their influence over the party’s structures, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Investigations by THISDAY revealed that the PDP governors, considered the major financiers of the party, are positioning themselves to challenge the dominance of Atiku and Wike within the party hierarchy.
With the NEC meeting slated for Thursday, April 18, a source close to the PDP Governors’ Forum disclosed that the governors are questioning the contributions of Atiku and Wike to the day-to-day operations of the party.
Preparatory to the NEC meeting, the PDP governors are reportedly convening a series of meetings to strategize and consolidate their position within the party. Another source within the PDP Governors’ Forum revealed that the governors are determined to thwart any attempt by Atiku or Wike to assert control over the party.
