Nigerian women especially those who are pregnant have been charged to embrace antenatal care. To this end, pregnant women have also been also advised to frequently attend healthcare facilities during and after delivery to ascertain their state of health and optimal body function.
A Medical expert Dr Marion Adekeye stated this in Ilorin while addressing pregnant women and Nursing mothers during the Maternal and Child Health Project of Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro. A Rotarian herself, Adekeye noted that the project is part of efforts to underscore the importance of utilizing routine health services, ensuring safe pregnancies and deliveries as well as reducing maternal mortality rate and other related complications with communities
The project organized by Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro in collaboration with United Foam Product Nigeria Limited saw the distribution of baby mattresses, free medical checkup and free drugs for pregnant women and Nursing mothers at Dada Primary Health Care center, Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
In his remarks, a representative of United Foam Product Nigeria limited Mr Olorunleke Ige noted that that the company is proud to partner Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro to execute the laudable initiative as part of her cooperate social responsibility.
Also speaking at the event, the duo of Ajibola Sulaiman, Director Primary Health Care Ilorin East t and Bashir Rihanat Olesin, officer in charge of Dada Primary Health Care Center in their separate remarks underscored the need for pregnant women to embrace antenatal care.
While appreciating the efforts of Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro in collaboration with United Foam Product Nigeria Limited for the distribution of baby mattresses and free medical checkup, secretary of the community Ambali Abbdulrazak said the gesture will go a long way in meeting the needs of Nursing mothers and pregnant women within their community.
“I can assure you that this community will continue to educate our nursing mothers and pregnant women to use this health facility, we are grateful for the donations of today”, he added.
Speaking on the essence of the Maternal and child Health project, the President Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro, Rotarian Mojirola Adeniran said “we are here for our maternal and child health program, usually in Rotary, we have a month dedicated for maternal and child Health and basically it is to help mothers and child, so that children can grow into adulthood well. Last year, we were here to donate birthing kits for the facility to ensure clean and safe delivery, today we are giving matrasses to babies so that they can sleep well and enjoy their mothers while breastfeeding”.
Mojirola who noted that Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro discovered that the community does not have enough hence the need to also step in with the donation of drugs expressed appreciation to the community for the warm welcome.
