Senate vows to beam searchlight on under-performing agencies, says FG borrowing to fund budgets because many agencies don’t deliver

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has said that the federal government has been borrowing to fund budgets because many revenue-generating agencies have been performing below expectation.
Lawan said this while speaking at the third University of Benin/National Institute for legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) convocation ceremony on Monday. The senate president said that the national assembly through its oversight function will beam its searchlight on revenue-generating agencies that are underperforming.

The senate president said the lawmakers are working hard to pass the budget before the Christmas break. He disclosed that today is the last day for budget defence.

Lawan also defended Nigeria’s choice of bicameral legislature, saying it is meant to address the country’s diversity and ethnic composition to ensure justice, equity and fairness for all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic groups.
