American Frances Tiafoe also progressed to the third round following a straight-set 6-4 6-4 6-1 victory over China’s Shang Juncheng

In the women’s category, 7th seed Coco Gauff beat British number one Emma Raducanu 6-3 7-6 to secure her place in the third round.
