STRIKE: KWARA NIPR INTERVENES, APPEALS FOR MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE

The Kwara State Government and the Organized Labour Unions in the State, have been urged to pave way for meaningful dialogue, to fast track amicable resolution of the on going strike in the State.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) made the call in Ilorin, while reacting to the impasse between the Government and Labour Unions in the state, over implementation of thirty thousand naira minimum wage in the state.

A Statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of the NIPR, Dr Saudat Salah Abdul Baqi and General Secretary Mr. Abdul Rahman Sanni, said as parts of its Corporate Social Responsibility, it is expedient for the Institute, to call for sincerity of purpose among the two parties to restore industrial harmony in the State.

The NIPR, while blaming the current situation in the state, to break down in communication, called on government to be sincere in opening its book to restore public trust, and appealed to the organized labour unions to demonstrate give and take spirit, to finding enduring solution to the problem.

The Institute then enjoined the state government to always be proactive, in the implementation of its programmes and policies through constant engagement of all critical stakeholders, to ensure inclusive governance ,which it noted is the hallmark of standard democracies across the world.

It pointed out that no meaningful development could be attained in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony, enjoined critical stakeholders in the state to urgently wade in,to restore industrial harmony in the state.
