President Muhammadu Buhari has said the Federal Government has approved compensation for farmers and fishermen affected by flood. The President in his message to the Nigeria Agip Oil Company joint venture partner’s 22nd annual farmer’s day celebration in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, said modalities for the compensation packages are in the final stage and will soon be implemented.
Buhari, whose message was broadcast to the farmers and guests at the event, urged Nigerians to embrace his administration’s agricultural revolution. He noted that Nigeria cannot continue importing food when blessed with abundant land for agriculture.
Calling on youths to participate actively in the agricultural revolution, the President said the theme of this year’s event “Youths: Agent for agricultural Development in the Niger Delta’, is apt, as the nation matches towards food sufficiency.
Thanking farmers across the country for their resourcefulness, President Buhari disclosed that the importation of rice, maize, and other grains has significantly reduced and assured that the federal government is working to revive the River Basin Authorities, in order to plan for lean times.
