The Medical laboratory science council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has again restated its stance on Zero tolerance for unethical service.
To this end, the council says its core responsibilities of regulating medical laboratory services through registration and licensing of medical laboratories as well as practitioners, mandatory inspection, mentoring for quality improvement, accreditation, regulate training of medical laboratory scientists, technicians among others will be sustained.
The Registrar /Chief Executive officer of Medical laboratory science council of Nigeria (MLSCN) Dr.Tosan Erhabo stated this in Ilorin ,Kwara state capital at the 1st oath taking/induction ceremony of medical laboratory science (BMLS) Graduands of Al-Hikmah University ,Ilorin .
“Our council is doing its best to make sure that only licensed persons and professionals practice the profession of medical lab science .You will not find people who are correctly trained involved in improper diagnosis because they have been taught what to do ,the challenge that we have in Nigeria is because of the dearth in medical lab scientists ,some people take it upon themselves to practice the profession whereas they are not trained to do so ,that is why the council encourages institutions that wants to mount this program to do the needful”.
Represented by Prof. Olayanju Ayodeji Olusola , the Registrar /Chief Executive officer of Medical Laboratory Science Council Of Nigeria charged Al-Hikmah University ,Ilorin to continually commit to high training and standard set by Medical laboratory science council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
In the induction lecture delivered by Prof. Ishaq omotosho titled Medical Laboratory: The Oracle of modern medicine, graduands were also admonished to abide by the code of conduct for medical laboratory scientist.
Speaking with RoyalTimes , Chairman Kwara state Branch of Medical laboratory science council of Nigeria, Ogunwale Kolawole commended the university on the great feat setting standards for other institutions to follow.
‘’This is a milestone for the first Islamic based university in Nigeria, we want to congratulate the school for the job well done”, he said.
The Induction which had in attendance Vice-Chancellor of the institution Prof.Noah Yusuf ,DVC Prof.Olalekan Akashoro, Registrar Dr.Kazeem Oladimeji among others also featured award presentation to dignitaries including founder of Al-Hikmah University Alhaji Abdur-raheem Oladimeji and others for their respective roles in the development of medical laboratory science profession in Nigeria.
A total of 10 persons bagged Bachelor of Medical Laboratory (BMLS) and were inducted into Medical Laboratory Science profession. The induction list paraded 2 first class honours ,7 second class honours (Upper division) and 1 Second Class honours (Lower division) .
