Trump departs for Washington to face charges of election lies
Donald Trump is en route to Washington DC where he has been summoned to appear in court at 16:00 ET (21:00 BST)
He is being charged with plotting to overturn the 2020 US presidential election result and follow an inquiry into the attack on the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.
The former president hit out at “corruption, scandal, and failure” after Tuesday’s indictment was made public
Trump is accused of “spreading lies” about election fraud for more than two months
He has previously been charged in two other unrelated cases – which relate to secret documents, and payments to former porn star Stormy Daniels
Despite the criminal cases, Trump is the favourite to be the Republican candidate in the 2024 election
