After a week of industrial action, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists of the University (NAATS) have announced the end of their warning strike, effective midnight Sunday, with the resumption of normal activities scheduled for Monday.
As reported by newsmen, the decision to suspend the strike comes after a month-long effort by the Joint Action Committee to draw the government’s attention to the exclusion of its members from the payment of withheld salaries, which had commenced for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in February.
In a Zoom meeting with journalists on Sunday, the National President of the JAC of SSANU and NASU, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, expressed disappointment over the government’s lack of response to the union’s demands.
While confirming the resumption of work on Monday, Ibrahim lamented the government’s failure to address the issues raised by the unions, particularly the non-payment of salaries to non-teaching staff. He indicated that the National Executive Council would convene to determine the next course of action.
