Following a closed-door meeting in Abuja, governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have clarified that the National Executive Committee (NEC) will be the ultimate authority in determining the contentious issue surrounding the National Chairmanship position of the party.
Addressing journalists after the extensive meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Muhammed, emphasized that the party’s internal issues were being addressed within the framework of its constitution.
Governor Muhammed dismissed suggestions of opposing factions within the party regarding the continuity of Umar Damagum as the Acting National Chairman. He asserted that the governors were committed to resolving all internal disputes and ensuring the party’s effectiveness in future elections.
Meanwhile, supporters of Umar Damagum and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), staged a protest at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja. The demonstrators expressed solidarity with Damagum and Wike, accusing certain elements within the party of sowing discord.
