As Easter festivities approach, anticipation typically rises for a surge in travel as people embark on journeys to reunite with loved ones or enjoy a brief respite from their daily routines.
However, major motor parks in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, experienced a stark contrast to this expected hustle and bustle on Friday, with a notable low turnout of passengers.
Mr. Michael Adelokun, Chairman of Saki Motor Park, expressed his observation of the diminished number of buses ferrying passengers to various destinations, highlighting a significant departure from the usual scenario.
It was gathered that Mr. Isahu Salawu, Secretary of the Park Management System at Iwo Road Motor Park, echoed Adelokun’s sentiments, attributing the subdued atmosphere at the parks to people’s need to manage their spending amidst financial constraints.
He said, “People have not been coming out due to lack of money, although we have not increased the cost of transportation. A bus to Saki costs N3,000, while a car goes for N3,500.
“These have been the costs for a long time now despite the unfriendly economy.”
